CupcakKe Interview
In the world of raunchy music, the amount of artists are pretty slim. It’s not a big genre of music, meaning those who master it will pop on to the music scene much faster. Artist ‘CupcakKe’ has had a similar venture. Born in Chicago, Illinois, CupcakKe began her career as a rapper in 2012 by releasing material online. She drew attention in 2015 when she released two music videos, “Vagina” and "Deepthroat” on Youtube that went viral; the songs were later included on her debut mixtape ‘Cum Cake,’ which was included on Rolling Stone’s list of the Best Rap Albums of 2016 at number 23. I had the chance to speak with CupcakKe, and pick her brain on a couple of topics about her music and life outside of music.

CupcakKe has had an interesting rise to fame. She rides the sexual and raunchy vibe she gives for her fans to keep falling in love with her. Her approach to music is so different, and it’s almost like she’s started her own genre.
“My music is not at all the same as other female artists. I think my fans love the quirkiness it delivers, and can also find some comedic value in what my lyrics say. Some like it and some don’t, but I love the music I make and want the people who do like it to cherish it.”

She doesn’t care what haters have to say, as she takes her form of music to the top. Her inspiration has come from many places as well, with most being from female artists she grew up listening to.
“I wanted to emulate women’s rap, and make it into something that’s so different. I grew up listening to people like Nicki Minaj and Lil Kim. I wanted to do what they were doing so badly, but I also knew I needed to stand out and not just be exactly like them.”

CupcakKe came from humble beginnings. Growing up in Chicago, she was raised by her single mother, and was in and out of homeless shelters as a child. She credits her hard work to success to her mother, and the sacrifices she made for her.
“My childhood was crazy, because I didn’t really have a place to call home for awhile. Me and my mom were in homeless shelters, and my dad was a deadbeat. My mom is my hero, and I’m so thankful for everything she’s done for me. I credit her for much of my success.”

CupcakKe is running strong with her music, and will continue to breach the music scene with her dirty rap style.
